Education Resources for Teachers
Welcome, Teachers!
Long Beach Symphony is dedicated to fostering music education in our schools. Over the past 40 years, we have partnered with the Long Beach Unified School District to provide free, music education programs to all second through fifth-grade students, which include Ensembles in the Elementary Schools and Toyota Youth Concerts. Thanks to a multi-year grant from The Boeing Company we were able to form an Educators Advisory Council, which comprised a group of LBUSD elementary teachers who provided valuable feedback and recommendations for our programs. This resulted in hiring an Arts Integration Specialist, Kay Vanzant-Bradney, to help develop arts integrated lesson plans in alignment with California State learning standards that any teacher can easily access and implement with their students. On the sidebar to the left, you will find links to the ELA, math and general music lesson plans, 20-minute listening activities, student worksheets, a glossary of musical definitions and videos of the Symphony Concerts for Young People musical selections. You will also find a link to the 2020 TYC & Elementary Ensembles Teacher Resource Guides created by LBUSD Music Curriculum Leader, Jim Petri, which are provided to all participating schools by their principals.
After you’ve completed the lesson plans and concurring program please provide your feedback on the teacher survey linked on the left. Teachers who complete surveys are entitled to two complimentary tickets to any one concert in the 2017-2018 season, upon request.
