3rd Marine Aircraft Wing Band

Officer in Charge (OIC) Tompo currently serves as Director of the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing Band at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, San Diego. As officer in charge, she manages and coordinates musical performances, develops budgets and annual operating plans, directs internal operations and training, and supervises the employment of the 3rd MAW Band.

The 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing was commissioned on November 10, 1942, at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, North Carolina. After World War II, the wing was deactivated and its remaining personnel reassigned. It was reactivated in 1952 at Marine Corps Air Station Miami during the Korean Conflict and relocated to Marine Corps Air Station El Toro, California, in 1957. After 42 years in Orange County, the wing moved to its current home at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in 1999. The band serves as both a military unit and musical ambassador, performing at ceremonies, airshows, festivals, sporting events, and community engagements throughout the United States and abroad. Recent appearances include airshows at Miramar and Yuma, Victoria Day events in Canada, Los Angeles Fleet Week, the Pleasanton Scottish Gathering and Games, and military appreciation events with the San Diego Padres and San Francisco 49ers. Beyond performances, band Marines maintain military readiness and combat skills and have deployed to combat theaters, including in support of Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. Through music, the band represents the Marine Corps, honors service and sacrifice, and connects with military members, veterans, and communities worldwide.
